But if we clarify the later makes (Waltham-Howard or Keystone-Howard) it will reduce the confusion. If we say "Howard" they won't know the difference. But especially for the new collector we need to clarify this difference. They certainly weren't going to emphasize the difference.
Of course the watches are not marked with the Keystone name - Keystone bought this respected name so that they could continue to capitalize on the good will associated with it. watches are generally more highly favored by collectors and too many new collectors also buy later (Keystone) Howards without realizing the difference. How many other times have we seen someone mistakenly dating a 10-size Howard to the 1860s or 1870s? Plenty! E.Howard & Co. They may miss the difference between "E.Howard & Co." and "E.Howard Watch Co." In fact many, such as the person who started this thread, do confuse the names. When a new collector or non-collector learns that they have a "Howard" watch it can be confusing to them. His life and business dealings make a fantastic story. I call it a Keystone Howard and mean nothing derogatory. There is no doubt in my mind that the free-sprung Edward Howard watch was manufactured around 1912 by the Keystone-owned company in the old, re-furbished U.S. Although the legal title holder changed several times, it was all owned at the top by Keystone, and controlled by Theophilus Zurbrugg (a name to remember*). These ownerships are as reported in various historical documents, and appear confusing.
